Royal Geelong Show multimedia installation

Barwon Water

Challenges

Having a regular display as part of the annual Royal Geelong Show, Barwon Water engaged Grindstone Creative to develop a refreshed approach to their educational themed stand in 2016.

The brief required the introduction of multimedia, in line with a modest budget and small space, whilst creating a display that could engage a broad demographic of visitors.

Strategy

The stand had relied on the updating of display fixtures within the space each year to suit the theme messaging. Grindstone decided to restart with a blank canvas approach and reimagine the space. Exploring the opportunity to create a bigger canvas using the full walls of the room, Grindstone engaged local Geelong street artist Laura Alice to collaborate on a series of whimsical, storybook-like characters to help explore the theme of ‘Our Wonderful Wild Weather’.

Outcomes

Using a mixed media approach, including custom animation and projection mapping by Grindstone onto the detailed and colourful illustrations of Laura Alice, Barwon Water’s installation was recognised as the best exhibit by the Royal Geelong Show.

Grindstone was able to provide a full-service creative offering from ideation, copywriting, design and animations, to projection mapping and print production.
